Here is a list of some of my favourite Linux Applications. All of which are Open-source and Free.

- Vim
is my favourite text editor. I actually use Neovim which is a more up to date version of vim, though it is still ultimately the same.
- Geany is my favourite GUI based text editor it's rather basic, but I think I like that about it
- Kitty
is my favourite terminal emulator
- Bwbasic is a basic programming language terminal based app.
- Seamonkey-composer is the WYSIWYG html editor I use
- Retroarch a gaming frontend I use to play retro games
- Dosbox a Dos emulator
- Nemo file manager
- Calcurse a terminal based calendar program.

Installing DWM in arch Linux

First, install the dependencies:

 sudo pacman -S base-devel git libx11 libxft xorg-server xorg-xinit terminus-font

make directory and download the git repositories

mkdir -p ~/.local/src

$ git clone git://git.suckless.org/st ~/.local/src/st
$ git clone git://git.suckless.org/dmenu ~/.local/src/dmenu
$ git clone git://git.suckless.org/dwm ~/.local/src/dwm

cd into ST folder

cd ~/.local/src/st

make and install st

 make clean
$ sudo make install

cd into dmenu

 cd ~/.local/src/dmenu

Make and install Dmenu

make clean
$ sudo make install

Cd into dwm folder

cd ~/.local/src/dwm

edit config-def.mk if you want

make clean
$ sudo make install

Now just type this command. Use the editor of your choice

nvim ~/.xinitrc

And add this line:
exec dwm

You can now log into dwm.

How to install Qemu and kvm on ubuntu

First copy and paste this into a terminal.

sudo apt install qemu qemu-kvm virt-manager bridge-utils

Add user to appropriate group

sudo useradd -g $USER libvirt
sudo useradd -g $USER libvirt-kvm

enable and start libvert

sudo systemctl enable libvirtd.service && sudo systemctl start libvirtd.service

installation of Qemu is done.

if you ever get the "Network default is not active" message. Just type into a terminal:

sudo virsh net-start default

Install dwm on ubuntu

sudo apt-get install build-essential libx11-dev libxinerama-dev sharutils suckless-tools libxft-dev stterm

Once this is done, we can download the source for DWM, extract it, and fix the permissions:

cd /usr/local/src
sudo wget http://dl.suckless.org/dwm/dwm-6.2.tar.gz
sudo tar xvzf dwm-6.2.tar.gz
chown -R `id -u`:`id -g` dwm-6.2

Next, we need to build the project and install it:

 cd dwm-6.2/
 sudo make clean install

At this point, DWM is installed on your system, but we have to do a bit of extra work to get an entry for it on the login screen:

sudo apt-get install dwm
sudo cp /usr/share/xsessions/dwm.desktop{,.bak}
sudo apt-get purge dwm
sudo mv /usr/share/xsessions/dwm.desktop{.bak,}

add background to dwm

1. make a new file and call it: ./fehbg
2. copy this text into your textfile

feh --no-fehbg --bg-fill '/home/adamh/Pictures/wallpaper.png'

replace /home/adam/ect with location of your image file.

3. as root make the script executable

chmod +x ./fehbg

4. using a text editor tpye: vim .bashrc
5.
write at the bottom of the file: ./fehbg
And you are done!

TIP you can follow the same procedure to set your screen resolution too.

Install starship and make your terminal look pretty

Note: You will need to install curl. On Debian it's a simple: sudo apt install curl

Install the latest version for your system: Type this into a terminal

curl -sS https://starship.rs/install.sh | sh

Step 2. Set up your shell to use Starship

Configure your shell to initialize starship:

Add the following to the end of ~/.bashrc:

eval "$(starship init bash)"

Step 3. Configure Starship

Start a new shell instance, and you should see your beautiful new shell prompt. If you're happy with the defaults, enjoy!

Add a theme

Tokyo night

starship preset tokyo-night -o ~/.config/starship.toml

A great way to map your Nintendo 64 controls to a keyboard

Building DWM on Debian

sudo apt install build-essential libx11-dev libxft-dev libxinerama-dev libfreetype6-dev libfontconfig1-dev

Navigate to /usr/share/xsessions/

Create dwm.desktop file:

[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=Dwm
Comment=Dynamic window manager
Exec=/usr/local/bin/dwm
Icon=dwm
Type=XSession
as root: make

sudo make clean install

My fluxbox

                            I also added Cairo-dock!

Install: essentials
Sudo apt install

non essentials

applications I use

download my configs from: my flux configs

or simply type into a terminal
[> git clone https://codeberg.org/cornishbeaver/fluxbox-.git <]

How to install SeaMonkey on Debian

First, obviously update.

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade

Then;

sudo apt install dirmngr software-properties-common apt-transport-https -y

to check if keys installed

sudo gpg --list-keys

Then import the gpg key

sudo gpg --no-default-keyring --keyring /usr/share/keyrings/ubuntuzilla.gpg --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 2667CA5C
Add ubuntuzilla repository
printf 'deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/ubuntuzilla.gpg] https://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/ubuntuzilla/mozilla/apt all main\n' | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ubuntuzilla.list

update again...

sudo apt update

Install Seamonkey browser

sudo apt install seamonkey-mozilla-build

Now seamonkey should be installed on your Debian system.

how to create a Linux user

useradd [OPTIONS] USERNAME
sudo useradd username
sudo passwd username
sudo useradd -g users -G wheel,developers username

change fluxbox default background for all users

If you want to change the default wallpaper for all users, go usr/share/images and replace the bg image with one of your choice then rename it the same as in your config file.
